Are you encountering challenges in your sofa production? The culprit might be your adhesive. From the impact on your workforce to the quality of the final product, an adhesive can significantly influence your work for better or worse.
In this article, Adkwik shares its top adhesives for furniture and sofas, including expert technical insights to ensure your glue works efficiently, safely and cost-effectively for your business.Â
Importance of Choosing the Right Sofa Adhesive
Selecting the appropriate adhesives at every stage of sofa production is crucial for achieving professional aesthetics, durability and customer satisfaction. These factors give you a competitive advantage and translate to financial benefits for your business.
Likewise, using the correct sofa glue streamlines adhesive application, reduces downtime and ensures safety for your workforce and environment. These factors are equally critical to get right.Â
With that said, let’s delve into our recommended sofa adhesives for your industry.
1. Hot Melt Adhesive
Hot melt adhesive is an excellent choice for bonding foam to frames, foam to foam, and foam to fabric. With incredibly high bonding properties, they massively maximise productivity and still give you the assembly time, making them the go-to option for any production line.Â
This adhesive is a fantastic alternative to stapling techniques, which too often lead to unattractive crumpling or dimpling effects on your furniture. Use this adhesive to give your sofa the plush, professional look your customers deserve.Â
For this application, we suggest using Timbond H509. It’s a versatile adhesive known for its reliable, high-strength performance and unique ability to remain permanently tacky. This quick and cost-effective system is 100% solvent-free, aligning with HSE regulations and reducing the need for extraction and PPE.
To use this product, you will need a hot melt machine, and the best appliance for the job is a Meler B4 Hot Melt Adhesive Melter Machine Kit. Hire one of these machines, with a gun and hose included, from Adkwik.

2. Spray Contact Adhesive
When glueing foam to timber, we recommend Timbond NC Spray Contact Adhesive a high-performance spray contact adhesive. It’s ideal for bonding upholstery materials to common core substrates in foam and upholstery applications, such as plywood and MDF. Since it has a robust grip and strong bond adhesion, it’s the best glue for challenging fabric, such as synthetic leather.Â
You could also opt for other products, such as The Ultimate Upholstery Adhesive and Prefix Heavy Duty Spray Contact Adhesive. However, the Timbond NC Spray adhesive is a dichloromethane (DCM) free or non-chlorinated glue, making it a much safer alternative to the solvent-based adhesives typically used in enclosed spray booths. By mitigating risks, you can ensure a secure and healthy working environment.Â
Note that you will require the Adkwik Gun and hose kit with the web spray tip to use this adhesive.
3. PVA Glue
PVA adhesive is an excellent furniture glue for frame assembly, giving a strong, neat and reliable bond across timberwork with ease. Assuming you’re manufacturing interior sofas, we’d recommend using Tytex D2 general-purpose PVA adhesive.Â
This product is a premium wood glue capable of setting within 15 minutes, which keeps your production moving. Application is easy – simply disperse the glue with a brush or a Pfohl glue spreader. You can also invest in a convenient metal drum tipper to decant the 25kg cartons of adhesive with precision. This extra equipment helps to streamline your work and reduce the chances of spillages.Â
