Renowned sofa maker boosts productivity without compromising on performance

Ashley Manor Upholstery is a British furniture manufacturer, with a reputation for making premium furniture with traditional techniques. They were looking for a framing glue that had a quicker set time to fit in with changes in their production process. The glue also had to be of premium quality, to match their emphasis on quality craftmanship.

The problem 

Ashley Manor Upholstery were keen to reduce the amount of time a sofa frame had to wait before it could be shipped to their external upholstery site. The glue they were using took a lengthy six to eight hours to set – anything less would put too much stress on the frame during transport, potentially leading to frame failure if the glue hadn’t set properly.

Our solution 

In search of a higher quality PVA glue, they reached out to Adkwik, and we conducted an on-site review of their process to see if we could help. A switch to Timbond D2 Framing Adhesive drastically reduced their set time from six to eight hours, to one to two hours. This enabled them to ship their frames a lot faster than previously, vastly improving their production efficiencies. It also removed the risk of frame failure, guarding their reputation for superior quality and craftsmanship.

An added bonus of switching to Timbond D2 Framing Adhesive was a notable difference in frame quality. Timbond D2 Framing Adhesive has a higher solid content, which forms a much stronger bond. Made specifically for sofa framing, its elastic formula allows it to flex with movement and pressure, where standard PVA would typically crack. This makes it ideal for standing up to the stresses and strains of modern sofa use. It also has a traceable glue line, in either blue or UV-visible tint, which makes it much easier to maintain visual quality control.
