The Problem
Bespoke joinery manufacturer Thorpes Joinery were looking for an alternative to their existing two- part resin-based adhesive. They wanted an adhesive that was easier and more reliable to work with, that would meet the demands of the commercial space they are working in.
Many of Thorpe Joinery’s clients create premium office environments that offer the highest standards of employee wellbeing. Thorpes Sustainability Manager, Richard Moore, explained that their clients often have to meet the requirements of certification schemes such as WELL, which seek to measure and monitor the quality of the built environment. Air purity is a key component of such schemes, and to achieve WELL platinum levels on air purity, they really need to be using cleaner alternatives to traditional adhesives. This means sourcing adhesives with dramatically lower levels of harmful Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), such as formaldehyde.
To ensure the ongoing safety of its staff and comply with HSE regulations, the company would need to install suitable full face mask PPE and carry out regular air monitoring checks.
