Timbond PVA is a superior quality, fast setting wood adhesive. It’s particularly useful for furniture assembly and bonding high pressure laminates and timber veneers. So much so that when one of our clients came to us with a furniture bonding challenge, we knew it could help.
The problem
The client – a top UK designer and builder of simple, smart and practical office furniture – wanted to improve their table top bonding process.
Most of their table tops are made from birch ply or Valchromat MDF. These are then faced with Forbo linoleum to give an elegant, tactile finish.
When they approached us they were bonding using a spray contact adhesive to glue the Forbo and Valcromat together. Rapidly growing sales meant they needed a faster, more efficient and more cost-effective method of applying the adhesive. Although the spray adhesives worked well for 95% of the layups, there were some minor issues with movement in the bond line. This could cause the Forbo to blister, ripple, or both causing delays in the production line.
Our bonding solution
After a site visit and meeting with the management team, we recommended they installed an Italparesse platen press. We then trained the team how to use glue rollers. They then used these in conjunction with Timbond D3 PVA fast setting wood adhesive for a cleaner, greener (non-flammable) and more cost effective bonding process.
The result
The Timbond PVA fixed the movement issue and made the bonding process more cost-effective.
The switch also removed the risk associated with dichloromethane based spray contact adhesives – and the canister disposal charge – by using a more durable water-based and low voc adhesive.
