Door manufacturer increases productivity by switching to Ubabond U30

The Problem 

Adkwik was contacted by a fire door manufacturer, Cotswold Doors, because they were experiencing an adhesive issue with one of their doors. The busy factory in Ipswich makes a wide variety of fire doors, including veneer, paper, laminate and glazed doors, before they are shipped out to be assembled into fire door sets. Throughput was being affected by the lipping not sticking to a particular door in production. Our Technical Director, Clive Warren, was happy to visit the factory and use his expertise to help Cotswold Doors resolve the issue.

Our Solution 

After watching the edge bander and door making process in action, Clive recommended a change of glue to solve the problem. A switch was made to Ubabond U30, and the adhesive issue was instantly sorted, enabling production to resume. Factory Manager, Neil Howe, was understandably delighted:

“With the old glue, a paper door would be in the hot press for two and a half minutes, limiting the number of doors we could produce. With Ubabond U30, the door only spends 30 seconds in the press, giving a much higher rate of production. I am confident that we will now be able to produce 200 doors a day in paper, which will have a positive impact on our profitability.”
