The problem

Adhesive overspill can be a messy business. It’s one of the main causes of Pu adhesive problems, delaying project completion and costing time and money to clear up.

So, when a well-known manufacturer with over 40 years’ experience of creating the finest furniture for residences around the globe had an issue with their production process, they contacted Adkwik for a solution.

As part of their production line laminating solid timber, hardwood sections are glued together to form countertops and components for their cabinets. When the timber components were bonded, the excess adhesive coming out of the joint was causing significant problems, affecting the finish of their product. Cleaning Pu adhesives like this is both time consuming and costly – so was causing a real business issue. Fortunately, it’s also completely avoidable.

Our product solution

We could see the problem was with the foaming adhesives they were using.

While strong adhesives such as liquid Pu are great products with the high strength you need for solid timber bonding, the high foaming content means it’s difficult to control application issues – including the problems they were having.

After working with their in-house team to assess their needs and production processes we recommended and implemented a switch to Adkwik’s Timbond 5min Thixotropic Gel PU. This fast setting wood glue from our Pu gel adhesives range gives the consistent high-strength bonds which are crucial to the quality of their work.

This all leads to the added result that clean up time is now virtually non-existent, meaning they can focus on creating beautiful furniture for their clients around the world.
