Adkwik have increased stock of adhesives to continue fulfilling the incredible demand for Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs).
SIP manufacturers have seen unprecedented demand over the last 12 months. As Covid-19 means more people are working from home, office goers have been turning to garden rooms made from SIPs for a fast, effective, warm, and stylish home workspace.
And it’s not letting up.
As a result, raw materials have also faced incredible pressure with timber and insulation prices doubling – just as materials, including adhesives, have become increasingly hard to source.
Meeting the challenge
Here at Adkwik we’ve increased our stock of the adhesives needed in the manufacturing process so our clients, both new and existing, have all the materials they need to meet customer needs.
The SIP manufacturing process
Consisting of an insulating foam core sandwiched between two structural facings, typically oriented strand board (OSB), the uses for SIPs are endless. And, as they are extremely quick to work with, they provide a very fast building method that’s perfect for garden rooms, annexes, housing and small to medium commercial buildings.
PIR core SIPs are made by injecting a liquid foam solution between two sheets of OSB where it auto adhesively bonds to the OSB and hardens to form a solid sandwich.
ESP core SIPs are made by bonding two sheets of OSB to an ESP core using a PU (polyurethane adhesive). The adhesive is normally applied via glue roller or a semi-automatic gluing applicator.
Timbond 5917 PU Adhesive
This specialist adhesive was developed for the manufacture of a wide range of panels and is used extensively for bonding SIPs.
• Solvent-free single-component moisture-curing polyurethane (MCPU) adhesive
• Securely bonds a wide range of ESP and OSB
• Applied manually via a glue roller, trowel, scraper or an automatic bead-applicator
This is again a specialist adhesive developed for many applications and panel fabrication including the construction of structural insulated (SIPS). This product has very similar properties to 5917 PU Adhesive but slower curing.
What adhesives are used in the SIP erection process?
Adhesive is normally used for bonding the spine into the panel, creating the strength in the joint that in effect bonds it, to create a solid panel.
There are 3 main adhesives you can use – all available in Adkwik’s range.
These are all an excellent choice for SIP construction and are the three main products installers choose, depending on their preference:
Tytex Expanding Foam
Tytex Construction Adhesives
Tytex Frame and Floor
