Cement boards and Magnesium Oxide boards are widely used in construction for various applications due to their durability, resistance and versatility.
Whether using it as a tile backing board or attaching to subfloors or stud walls – you need a strong adhesive that can fix these boards securely and give a high performance all year round.
Adkwik has the answer to your requirements; read on to find the best type of adhesive for this task. With these insights you you can work faster, safer and use your glue more efficiently.
Bonding Magnesium Oxide (MgO) and Cement Boards to Timber (Stud)
Cement boards are mainly used as a backboard for tiling or a sub-surface when building walls and floors. Cement board does not rot, warp, mould or deteriorate when subjected to water, so it’s an excellent option for bathrooms, showers and wetrooms.
Magnesium Oxide boards are used in similar circumstances. However, they are much more robust and fireproof and have an even higher resistance to mould, mildew, moisture and weather. These boards are also constructed without toxic materials, so they can be recycled and disposed of safely without fear of harmful toxins leaching out.
Make the most of these construction materials by using the correct glue to secure them to different timber surfaces such as plywood, fibreboard or OSB.
What is the Best Glue for Cement Board?
To prepare for all circumstances, you need an adhesive to meet multiple construction demands. The product we recommend for bonding cement and Magnesium Oxide boards (MgO) to timber is Tytex Construction Adhesive 310ml. It’s a strong fast-curing thixotropic gel adhesive that is capable of bonding most construction materials, including:
- Dry and moist timbers
- Cement-based boards
- Tile backer boards
The formula slightly foams on the initial application to fill any small gaps and helps to hold the board extra tight. The adhesive will cure and form a strong, durable bond within five to ten minutes.
Are you curious about how this adhesive will withstand different environments or conditions? Tytex Construction Adhesive conforms to EN 204 D4 Waterproof standards and has a high-temperature resistance of -30°C to 100°, so it’s versatile and well-equipped to handle various applications.
Applying the Adhesive Correctly
To apply this adhesive, you will require a cartridge gun, which is available from our collection of adhesive applicators. The standard Cox Wexford Skeleton Gun has impressive trigger action and pressure relief, ideal for precise and controlled application exactly where you need it.
We suggest applying the Tytex Construction Adhesive in 4mm beads to one of the surfaces. Assemble the bond immediately (within five minutes) and apply pressure with fasteners, clamps or weights to hold it in place during curing.
Clean any excess adhesive immediately, as cured glue must be removed by mechanical means or sharp tooling. This extra step can be time-consuming and eat into precious working time.
